Understanding the 60-Day Advance Booking Window
How Indian Railways Calculates 60 Days
Under the Ministry of Railways reservation rules (effective 1 November 2024), general train reservations open exactly 60 days in advance (excluding the date of journey).
Reservations open at exactly 08:00:00 AM IST on both the IRCTC website/app and computerized PRS reservation counters across India.
Exceptions to the 60-Day Rule
- Day-Train Intercity Short Runs: Certain short-distance intercity expresses (such as Taj Express, Gomti Express) maintain shorter advance booking periods of 30 or 15 days.
- Foreign Tourist Quota: Foreign tourists holding international passports can book tickets up to 365 days in advance under the FT quota.
