Official Indian Railway Board Cancellation Rules Summary
1. Flat Cancellation Charges (More than 48 Hours Before Departure)
If a confirmed ticket is cancelled more than 48 hours before scheduled departure, flat per-passenger deductions apply:
- AC First Class / Executive Class (1A / EC): ₹240 + 5% GST (₹252 total)
- AC 2 Tier / First Class (2A / FC): ₹200 + 5% GST (₹210 total)
- AC 3 Tier / 3 Economy / Chair Car (3A / 3E / CC): ₹180 + 5% GST (₹189 total)
- Sleeper Class (SL): ₹120 (No GST)
- Second Sitting (2S): ₹60 (No GST)
2. 48 Hours to 12 Hours Before Departure
25% of the ticket fare is deducted, subject to the minimum flat cancellation charge per passenger listed above (+ 5% GST for AC classes).
3. 12 Hours to 4 Hours (or Chart 1 Preparation)
50% of the ticket fare is deducted, subject to the minimum flat cancellation charge (+ 5% GST for AC classes).
4. Less than 4 Hours / After Chart Prepared
No refund (0%) is admissible on confirmed tickets cancelled after chart preparation or within 4 hours of departure. (TDR can only be filed for exceptional reasons like train cancelled or delayed >3 hours).
5. RAC & Waitlisted Tickets
Flat clerkage charge of ₹60 per passenger (+ 5% GST for AC classes = ₹63) is deducted up to 30 minutes before departure. Fully waitlisted e-tickets that remain unconfirmed after chart preparation are automatically cancelled with full refund minus clerkage.
